King George Inlands 2006

An excellent weekend of racing not to mention social activity was hosted by King George Sailing Club on 14th/15th October. On Saturday a light and extremely shifty north easterly greeted the eight boats from all parts of southern England. The Race Officer deserved a medal for setting the windward leeward type courses from a permanently anchored committee boat in the middle of the lake with a selection of fixed marks around the edge.

In the first race Jane Noble crewed by Mark Wilson read the shifts well up the first beat to open up an unbeatable lead ahead of Stuart Bailey and Zoe Noble. In the second and third races, Bailey and Noble showed the form which had made them Travellers Trophy favourites to take line honours.

Everyone enjoyed the Saturday evening barbeque and jolly japes with space hoppers, fortunately no serious injuries were sustained and everyone made it to the start line on Sunday morning.

The wind started off light again for race 4 but soon freshened and a few capsizes occurred in the gusty and shifty conditions. Stuart Bailey and Zoe Noble proved their metal by recovering from a 3 Buzz pile up at the leeward mark to win again ahead of Mike Trueman and Helen Hilton. Trueman managed to snatch a win in race 5 ahead of Bailey who then went on to win the last race ahead of John Cass and Julia Brazil who in turn only narrowly beat Bob and Isabel Joce. As the results show - the racing was very close in the middle order with count backs needed to separate 2nd - 4th places.
